RAJAPALAYAM: Twenty-one councillors, led by the Vice-Chairman, S.A. Manikanda Raja, were on a sit-in protest inside the Rajapalayam municipal council hall on Monday evening. Following a argument between the supporters of the Chairperson, R. Rathinam, (Congress) and Mr. Manikanda Raja (All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam), the Chairperson adjourned the council meeting within a few minutes of its commencement at 4 p.m. The Congress councillors questioned as to how Mr. Manikanda Raja could convene a meeting of the municipal staff and officials on his own on December 14, without the knowledge of the Chairperson. This led to the commotion following which the meeting was adjourned without discussing any of the resolutions in the agenda. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
