KARUR: Very heavy and continuous rain has been lashing Karur district since Monday. The district, on Tuesday, recorded 1,790 mm of rainfall, the heaviest since 2005-monsoon. In some places, irrigation channels overflowed inundating residential localities and villages in Kulithalai and Krishnarayapuram areas. The Amaravathy was carrying a heavy quantum of floodwaters drained by smaller rivers joining its course. A general alert has been sounded along the banks of Amaravathy for officials to be prepared to meet any eventuality. The chief amount of rainfall (in mm) recorded in important locations across the district in the 24 hours ending 8.30 a.m. on Wednesday are as follows (in mm): Palaviduthi 220, Mylampatti 205, Kadavur 198, Panjapatti 192.4, Aravakurichi 184, Anaipalayam 145.4, Mayanur 120.2, Krishnarayapuram 120, Karur 118.6, K.
