Bangalore: Rain washed out the fourth and final day’s play between Karnataka and Delhi in the Ranji Trophy super league Pool ‘A’ cricket match that concluded in a draw here on Thursday. Play was called of at 3 p.m. as umpires S.J. Phadkar and Alok Bhattacharjee, after repeated inspections starting from 9.15 a.m., found the conditions unfit for play. A few damp spots on the pitch and the rain that continued on and off undid the futile efforts of the ground-staff to dry the centre square and the surrounding areas. Both the teams gained one point each as Karnataka could not complete its first innings and was stranded at zero for no loss since the second day evening while replying to Delhi’s 538. Delhi, a strong contender for a semifinals berth, has 18 points from six matches and is behind Saurashtra (20) in Pool ‘A,’ while Karnataka languishes in the bottom-half with 10 points from six matches. On December 25, Karnataka will clash with Maharashtra at Ratnagiri. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
