NEW DELHI: After Baba Kharak Singh Marg and Sarojini Nagar, the foundation stone for the New Delhi Municipal Council’s third integrated multi-level parking at Kasturba Gandhi Marg was laid by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit here on Sunday.

Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Dikshit said: “We are proud that this is the third multi-level parking project to be inaugurated this month. It will serve as a milestone for the coming years since there has been a persistent demand for such parking lots which are now in reality taking final shape.”

“These parking projects will definitely solve the parking problem to a great extent. Though the technology used in such parking projects will be of high standards, emphasis should also be laid on its designing so that it attract overseas visitors to the Capital,” she added.

This parking to be constructed here would be automatic and will be spread over 6219 square metres with a capacity for up to 1,600 cars. It will be constructed by D.S. Constructions Ltd. on Build-Operate-Transfer basis within 30 months and the company will be allowed to operate it for a period of 30 years. The building would be spread across 14 floors including two basements. Two floors of the building would be used for commercial purposes.

The objective of construction of such parking lots is to decongest surface parking and made Delhi a global city before the Commonwealth Games 2010.

Managing Director of D.S. Constructions Ltd., M.S. Narula gave a presentation on the project and said it held immense importance due to its magnitude and strategic location as its lay in the heart of the sprawling business and commercial zone of Connaught Place and was surrounded by 19 multi-storey buildings visited by a number of office goers and public. He also informed that this multi-level parking would be developed using the latest German technology from Palis De, a leading manufacturer and supplier for automated parking in multi-storey parking to be built in minimum space for maximum use.

NDMC Chairman Parimal Rai, MLA and Vice-Chairperson Tajdar Babar, and Council Member Mukesh Bhatt were among those present at the inauguration.
