Trees are venerable creations of God. To abuse them is sacrilege. However, trees are used as billboards by some commercial establishments to display their advertisements to promote their products. Some find it convenient to run their cable wires through the branches of the trees. Such inhuman and unfriendly activities should be viewed seriously by the authorities concerned and the offenders brought to book. After all, trees are do-gooders inasmuch they absorb the carbon dioxide emissions, providing oxygen and much needed green cover from the blazing sun. V. Krishna Moorthy Kalakshetra Colony Thanks to TNEBThe Hindu has also highlighted this issue. Now, in response, the EB authorities have shifted the post to the side and ensured a smooth traffic on Veeravanchi Street, where Jams Matriculation School is located. We thank the TNEB, the Chitlapakkam town panchayat president, the ward member and The Hindu for the work. At the same time, we request the authorities to replace the damaged cement concrete EB post on Rajiv Gandhi Streey, Muthulakshmi Nagar, at the earliest. L. Sundararaman, Chitlapakkam Road dividers neededI wish to bring to the notice of the Traffic Police Department of Vysarpadi the following grievance of the residents for necessary action. The road, which leads from Basin Bridge to the Kodungaiyur garbage dumping yard at the stretch of Mullai Nagar, in need of road dividers for an easy driving of two-wheelers and other vehicles. There are no indications for pedestrians to cross this road. The residents and school-going children of this area face difficulties in crossing this widened road. I request the authorities to look into this matter and do the needful to avoid the accidents. Y. Pattabhiramaiah Kodungaiyur Increase frequency of trainsOf late, the number of commuters using suburban trains in the Tiruvallur-Chennai Beach sector has increased manifold. Many Central and State government offices and big business establishments are situated in and around Beach. As a result, the floating population using train services in this sector is growing day by day. At present the train services are less and there are only a few trains in the mornings and evenings with practically no service during noon hours. It is high time that the frequency was increased during rush hour so that at least there is a train once in half an hour. A few services from Velachery and Tambaram to Tiruvallur will be a boon to the public. Will the Railways do the needful? S. Seethalakshmi Perambur Halt for MTC busWe, the residents of Elango Nagar Sundaram (Six Streets) M.M. Garden, Vyasar Nagar, Shanthi Nagar, Avvai Nagar and Kannigapuram, catch the following MTC buses at Ganesapuram bus stop: 42, 42A, 42B, 42C, 142, 142B, 8A, 38C. But bus route No.242 alone is not provided a halt at Ganesapuram, even though Ganesapuram is a fare stage. This bus, which goes fast, is the most convenient for commuters to go to the Chennai Central Station to catch trains and is also useful for office-goers, college students during rush hour. Therefore we request you to provide a halt for bus route No.242 at Ganesapuram. Vyasai M. Thirumalai Vyasarpadi Misuse of first class coaches in trainThe misuse of first-class compartments by second-class passengers is now on the increase, especially in Tiruvallur-Chennai sector. Since most of the railway employees occupy first-class seats, it is difficult for the general public to travel comfortably in this class, apart from the misuse by second-class passengers, especially during rush hour. Alternatively specific seats may be reserved for the employees and it is to be assured that the actual payers benefit, to larger extent. Will the railway authorities do the needful? B. Latha, Perambur Prompt responseIn response to my letter published in The Hindu dated December 25, 2006, requesting the State Bank of India to provide an ATM on MGR Road for the benefit of customers residing in south Nanganallur, Chennai, the bank was kind enough to install an ATM in the area on November 29, 2007. I thank the bank for its gesture, which is well appreciated by the residents of South Nanganallur. A.C. Thiruvengadam Nanganallur Idle godownThe Corporation godown on C.P. Ramasamy road, Alwarpet, has been idle and in a bad shape for many years. One wonders whether the Corporation is aware of its existence at all. At present the entrance space is used as a parking lot by private vehicles. It can be converted into a fair price vegetable and fruit market. The platform fruit vendors should be shifted there. Then the pedestrians can use the platform freely. The traffic congestion will be eased. C. Varadarajan Alwarpet Without name boardsIt is more than a decade since Sastri Nagar in Adyar became a well developed area. But important roads in this locality do not have name boards. People find it difficult to locate these roads. The Corporation should provide the name boards without delay. Name board indicating the Sastri Nagar area should also be provided at the junction of Sastri Nagar First Avenue and L.B. Road near the traffic signal on L.B. Road. P.V.
