SALEM: Students from Kerala studying in deemed universities in Tamil Nadu are in a fix with their government recently issuing an order stating that students who obtain graduation degree from engineering colleges not approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) will not be eligible to join post-graduation courses in Kerala. Reacting to the order, president of the Kochi-based Parents Association of Vinayaka Mission’s Kirupananda Variyar Engineering College, Joy Thomas, told The Hindu over phone that many of the deemed universities in Tamil Nadu, where a large number of students from Kerala were studying, had not obtained AICTE approval for their engineering courses. The students and their parents were worried. “Fulfil promise”He said many university administrations in Tamil Nadu had assured the parents that the AICTE approval would be secured for their courses, when students staged demonstrations earlier. He urged all administrations to fulfil their promises. The association had formed a committee to consider legal steps. Sources here said the deemed universities were governed by the UGC and that the AICTE clarified that the deemed universities need not get its approval for the engineering courses. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
