Bid to sensitise students about eco-practices

NEW DELHI: To help students understand sustainable practices, the Delhi Jal Board on Monday took students of Salwan Public School to ITC Green Centre in neighbouring Gurgaon.

The Jal Board, which recently signed a memorandum of understanding with the Confederation of Indian Industry, has initiated steps to sensitise students about eco-responsible practices.

The objective of the visit was to trigger innovative thinking in the minds of students by introducing them to affordable new tools of water, energy and waste management and to give them a chance for informal interaction with experts.

“The idea is to inspire support towards the 3R’s -- reduce, recycle and reuse -- of wastage and demonstrate to them how environmentally-friendly and energy-efficiently materials have triggered a green movement in the country,” said Delhi Jal Board Chief Executive officer Arun Mathur.

The students were shown effluent treatment plant, voice mail facilities in hotel rooms to conserve paper, percolation tanks to conserve water and integrated environment, health and safety structure to maintain a safe and ecologically balanced environment.

The students were also introduced to low-energy water-lifting techniques, family nutrition kitand low-cost sprinklers.
