Sad flows the river

Dying River: Illegal occupation of the Periyar due to the increasing number of high rise buildings along either side of its banks has narrowed the river considerably. More than 20 private groups and real estate developers have announced their river view building projects. Some of these projects have violated the provision of Kerala River Protection Act which stipulates a minimum distance from the river to the construction site as 50 meters. A scene near Aluva.
