Two houses burgled

BANGALORE: Two houses were burgled in the city on Thursday night.

Gold ornaments and cash totalling about Rs. 1.5 lakh were taken away from the house of Prabhakar, a businessman, at Manjunath Layout in Nagashettihalli.

According to the police, Mr. Manjunath and his family had gone to Davangere on December 20.

When they returned home, they found that someone had entered the home and taken away the valuables.

The Sanjay Nagar police have registered a case in this connection.

In another incident, 313 gm of gold ornaments and Rs. 3.5 lakh in cash were found missing from the house of M. Jayaram at SBI Staff Colony in Basaveshwara Nagar police station limits.

According to the police, Mr. Jayaram had gone to his relatives’ house along with his family and the theft was discovered when they returned home in the night.

The Basaveshwara Nagar police have registered a case.

Arrested

The Byatarayanapura police arrested Rafiq (35) of Haleguddadahalli for allegedly selling pirated VCDs on Mysore Road and Haleguddadahalli.

The police seized 300 pirated VCDs.

Fire

Fire broke out in a furniture shop near Haleguddahalli on Mysore Road on Thursday night.

The fire, said to have been triggered by a short-circuit, was noticed by a police patrol team.

Ten fire tenders were pressed into service to put out the fire.

The loss has been estimated at Rs. 10 lakh.

In another incident, a fire broke out at a saw mill at A.K. Colony in D.J. Halli police station limits.

A fire tender was sent to put out the fire.
