Guwahati: Four activists — a surrendered ULFA (SULFA) suspect in the recent assassination bid on an AGP MLA, two members of ULFA and Santhal Tiger Force and an ULFA link man — were apprehended during separate raids in Assam since Friday night. SULFA activist Jitu Bhuyan was arrested near Darrang College in Tezpur on suspicion of attempting to assassinate AGP MLA Padma Hazarika at Sootea on December 13, official sources said. Bhuyan, who had returned to the mainstream in 1993 four years after joining the ULFA, was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate and remanded to custody on Saturday. — PTI © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
