Shillong: Environmental clearance has been given for the proposed mining in Meghalaya by the Uranium Corporation of India Limited (UCIL), official sources here said on Sunday. Satish C. Garkoti, Additional Director in the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests, in a letter to the UCIL, said the clearance was given for the Kylleng- Pyndengshohiong Uranium Mining and Processing Plant proposal. It was given for an annual production capacity of 3,75,000 tonnes of ore by the opencast mechanised method and processing of 1,500 tonnes a day of ore in a plant involving 351 hectares at Mawthabahn in West Khasi Hills district here. — PTI © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
