Free sale sugar quota announced

NEW DELHI: The Centre on Monday announced the release of 41 lakh tonnes of non-levy, free sale sugar for the January-March, 2008 quarter. For January, the free sale sugar quota released is 13 lakh tonnes. In addition, a quantity of 1.98 lakh tonnes of levy sugar was released for distribution under the Public Distribution System.

The total availability of sugar in January would be 14.98 lakh tonnes, for domestic consumption.
