NANDIGAMA (Krishna dist.): Tanneru Rambabu, 57, working as Excise Inspector at Tanuku in West Godavari district, died on the spot when a lorry hit the car he was travelling in near Siva Sai Kshetram at Kanchikacherla on Tuesday. Car driver, a 22-year-old person whose identity was yet to be established, succumbed to the injuries he suffered in the accident at Government General Hospital in Vijayawada in the evening. The police said that the accident took place at 2.30 p.m. The car, coming from Tanuku, was on its way to Hyderabad. The car driver took the road leading to Siva Sai Kshetram, a bypass road, to cut short the distance. A lorry coming in the opposite direction hit the car, killing Rambabu on the spot. The police found that the lorry driver was coming in the wrong direction. He, however, escaped from the spot. The car driver suffered severe injuries and was rushed to GGH in Vijayawada. A case was registered. The police seized the lorry. Hostel caretaker deadBoddu Varalakshmi, 30, a caretaker of the special hostel for SC girls, died while undergoing treatment at Government General Hospital in Vijayawada on Tuesday. Varalakshmi and Umamaheswari, a student of the hostel located in Nehru Nagar, were injured in an attack by unknown persons in the early hours of Friday. They were shifted to GGH.
