Chennai: Students of three Chennai Corporation schools received a fun lesson on road safety through a picture book in Tamil released here on Friday. ‘Smarty’s World’ is a book with cartoons and illustrations that teach children road rules. Mercedes Benz brought out the book as part of its road safety project, and a Tamil version has been produced in association with voluntary organisation Suraksha. It is aimed at children between 8 and 12 years, and will be distributed free to Corporation schools. The book was released at an awareness programme organised by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers, Suraksha and automobile major Ashok Leyland. R. Devarajan, Special Director of Ashok Leyland, said 250 persons were killed every day in road accidents in India. He urged pedestrians, drivers and commuters to adhere to safety rules.
