Civic chief warns officials

Correspondent

Takes serious view of complaints

VIZIANAGARAM: Municipal Chairperson M. Geetha has asked Commissioner S.S. Verma to write to the district Collector with copies to Minister local MLA for action against the officials who have been abstaining from Council meetings in spite of prior information.

Emphasising the need for coordination between section heads and employees, Ms. Geetha, during the zero hour of the Municipal Council meeting on Saturday, warned officials of stringent action if the complaints lodged by ward councillors on public utility works were not attended immediately.

Special drive

She reacted sharply when councillors, cutting across party lines, informed the Chairperson about officials’ apathy on their representations on problems like parking places, debris clearance, encroachments and sanitation.

She ordered a special drive to clear all encroachments on municipal lands.

On a complaint of irregular fogging in wards, sanitation officials informed the Chairperson that fogging machines were defective and there was no regular staff to operate them. She instructed in-charge Health Officer Prabhakar Rao to streamline the system and ensure fogging in all the wards to contain mosquito menace.

Discussion not allowed

The Chairperson did not allow a discussion when TDP floor leader V.S. Prasad explained the adverse impact on Mushidipalli drinking water scheme on account of Jindal’s alumina refinery near S. Kota.
