Unhygienic places

On Ellis Nagar main road, in front of Sivakasi Hindu Nadars’ Matriculation Higher Secondary School garbage is dumped; the same is the case in front of Thiruvalluvar Thamizhvazhi Kalvi Nilayam. Besides, people defecate in the open near these places. This results in unhygienic conditions in the area, affecting the health of school children. I request the Corporation authorities to clear the filth and keep these areas clean.

Divert buses

Mini buses ply between Vandiyoor and Mattuthavani bus stand via a 12-feet wide interior road in Melamadai. It is so narrow that there is not enough space for two buses from opposite directions to pass through. Hence, buses going in one direction can be diverted via Anna Nagar for about 500 metres and join the original route.

Problematic road junction

On the northern end of PTR Bridge on Teppakulam-Anna Nagar 80-feet road, there is a five-road junction where three roads branch off — one going towards Vandiyur on the east, the next towards Vaigai Colony on the west, and the third towards eastern parts of Vaigai Colony. The roads meet at the junction in such a way that motorists on one road cannot see oncoming vehicles on the other roads. It leads to road accidents often. Residents of Vaigai Colony have been demanding for a traffic signal to be provided at the junction. If it is not possible now, at least a small traffic island must be created temporarily at this place.

Traffic police needed

With mushrooming of educational establishments and residential colonies on either side of New Natham Road, vehicular traffic is increasing day by day on this stretch. Pedestrians find it difficult to cross the road, especially in the evenings when there is heavy traffic. The problem is acute at the Visalakshipuram-Pudur Vandipathai (Athikulam main road) intersection. Without any traffic police to regulate the disorderly traffic, it is chaos all the time at this point.

Moreover, since the pedestrians are blinded by the high-beam halogen lamps of vehicles at night, crossing the road becomes a nightmare. If a traffic police is posted at this point, the situation will improve to a great extent.

Restore non-stop bus service

Point-to-Point bus service from Madurai to Ramanathaputram was introduced in 1992 to facilitate the Collectorate staff to reach office in time when the Ramnad Collectorate was shifted from Madurai. The bus, with higher fare, started at 7.40 am and reached Ramanathapuram before 10 am, stopping only at Paramakudi, benefiting office-goers to these towns. Since last October, instruction has been issued to th4e crew to stop at Tirupuvanam and Manamadurai. This results in delay for regular commuters. Besides, this leads to wordy duel between passengers and the crew often. There are umpteen number of other buses which stop regularly at these two places. The crew who justified the plea of commuters and overlooked the instruction were served with suspension order. We pray that the good service provided earlier is restored.
