BHUBANESWAR: The Orissa government on Wednesday decided to take various measures to expedite the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna (PMGSY) in the State. A high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik decided to complete the laying of roads under 8th phase of the PMGSY. In the 8th phase of the Central scheme, a sum of Rs. 6012 crores had been sanctioned for laying 26,262 km PMGSY roads in the State. However, only Rs. 3280 crores had been spent so far. Addressing the meeting, the Chief Minister emphasised the need for faster implementation of the programme saying that roads were the lifeline for development of the rural interiors. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
