BHUBANESWAR: The Orissa government on Wednesday said it would move the Supreme Court to challenge an order of the Andhra Pradesh High Court pertaining to the controversial Polavaram irrigation project. The State government said it would approach the apex court challenging a stay order of the High Court of the neighbouring State against the order of the Central Environment Tribunal cancelling the environmental clearance granted for Polavaram project on the river Godavari. The High Court had granted the stay on a petition filed by the Andhra Pradesh Government against the Tribunal order on the Polavaram project. The Orissa government said it had decided to move the Supreme Court to protect the State’s interests. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
