It’s time for festivities

The festival of harvest is fast approaching. The merriment has been on since the first week of January with ‘rangoli hangamas’ and kite sales converting the city into a colour palette. ‘Gangireddula Aata’, the customary performance by bedecked bullocks, too is making a fast buck here than in the villages. ‘Lepakshi’ has arranged a ‘Bommala Koluvu’ in tune with Sankranthi and even corporate companies have geared up to celebrate the last festival of the season.

With rapid expansion of the city and large scale migration, festivals are being customised to suit urban spaces. Perhaps we will soon be in for the irony that will see the full time celebration of Sankranti in the various Fresh outlets of the city. After all, it is the harvest festival!
