Congress for elections on delimited seats

NEW DELHI: Although the report of the Delimitation Commission is yet to be notified, the Congress on Friday hoped that the coming elections in Karnataka (which are yet to be announced) would be held based on the report.

“We are looking forward to elections in Karnataka on the Delimitation Commission’s report [which is likely to be notified soon],”said AICC spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi here. Elections must be over in the State, which is under President’s rule, by May-end.

Asserting that the Congress stood for “meaningful reforms,” he said the proposed notification would rectify the historical imbalances against the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.

To a question on the Sachar Committee’s observation about pre-dominant Muslim populated areas defined as Scheduled Castes, Mr. Singh said the delimitation exercise was already underway when the Sachar recommendations came.
