NEW DELHI: Expressing displeasure over the liberalised new excise policy that has resulted in an increase in sale and consumption of liquor in the Capital, Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly Jagdish Mukhi has written to Chief Minister Sheila Dikhsit demanding that her Government take measures to reverse the trend. A former Finance Minister of Delhi himself, Prof. Mukhi said in his letter to the Chief Minister that several measures had been taken by him in the past to “harden” the excise policy, but now instead of adhering to the same policy the Delhi Government had gone ahead with a liberalised policy. He said while the Government was taking pride in the increased consumption of liquor in Delhi, the fact remained that such an approach was against the directive principles of the Constitution. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
