Retired BESCOM engineer murdered

BANGALORE: Raghavan, a retired assistant executive engineer of BESCOM, was allegedly murdered by his tenants in Hennur police station limits and his partially burnt body was abandoned in Krishnagiri district of Tamil Nadu.

The police said Raghavan (62), a resident of Nanjamba Agrahara in Chamarajpet, was reported missing from the city since Thursday.

On Friday morning, the Tamil Nadu police found his half-burnt body near Sooligere in Krishnagiri district, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Alok Kumar told The Hindu on Saturday.

According to the police, Raghavan had rented out his house in HBR Layout in Hennur police station limits.

The tenant was reportedly planning to vacate the house. On Thursday morning, Raghavan left his Nanjamba Agrahara house to collect the rent, but did not return home.

Mr. Alok Kumar said preliminary investigations revealed that the tenant, Sharma, and his son had hacked Raghavan to death at the HBR Layout house on Thursday itself.

Later, they shifted the body in a vehicle and set it on fire near Sooligere, he said.

The Krishnagiri police on Friday found a half burnt body on the roadside.

On the basis of an identity card found near the body, they contacted Raghavan’s family members here on Friday night and informed them about the murder.

Subsequently, Raghavan’s son lodged a missing complaint with the Kempe Gowda Nagar police here

“As Raghavan was already murdered, there was no purpose in registering a missing case. After getting the complete particulars of the case from the Tamil Nadu police, the investigation will be transferred to the Hennur police as the murder had taken place in their jurisdiction,” Mr. Alok Kumar said.

The Kempe Gowda Nagar police said staff from their station had accompanied Raghavan’s family members to Krishnagiri. The family members have identified the body as that of Raghavan.
