Jalandhar: A group of former Bahujan Samaj Party leaders on Saturday decided to form a new political outfit to fight for the cause of Dalits. They said they would expose “misdeeds” of party supremo and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati and would contest upcoming Assembly polls under a new banner. The leaders, who either quit the party or were expelled, at a meeting here accused Ms. Mayawati of abandoning the agenda set by party founder late Kanshi Ram. Hailing from Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir, they said they would float a new political outfit wholly dedicated to the cause of dalits. Former J&K BSP chief Satpal said the proposed new formation would contest all seats in the coming Assembly poll in the State. The rebels, including ex-BSP H.P. chief Baldev Singh and other leaders like Pawan Kumar Tinu and Darbara Singh Kamboz, discussed the formation of a new political outfit at the meeting. Baldev Singh alleged money had changed hands for allotment of BSP tickets to party aspirants in the recent Himachal Assembly poll. -- PTI © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
