VILLUPURAM: In a crackdown on illicit arrack distilleries, the personnel of the Prohibition Enforcement Wing seized 98 cans of rectified spirit that were kept hidden at Valavanur on the Villupuram-Puducherry boundary on Monday. The police said each can carried 35 litres of the contraband and its worth was estimated to be above Rs 2 lakh. Kumar of Andipalayam who was said to have kept the stock stealthily in a sugarcane field is said to be absconding.
