NEW DELHI: The Congress Party on Monday hailed what it called the “inauguration of a new era” in India-China relationship. “We also welcome it because this is the consistent outlook of the ‘Look East Policy’ of India which the party fully supports; the policy of inaugurating an era of exchanges and peace not only with our immediate neighbours but within the wider neighbourhood of Asia. These are significant confidence building measures and part of continuous and continuing process,” said AICC spokesman Abhishek Singhvi here. Recalling the recent visit of the Congress president Sonia Gandhi and general secretary Rahul Gandhi to China, the spokesman said there was no doubt that such measures would continue to propel India-Chinese relations on the right path. Mr. Singhvi said India’s foreign policy with any country was based on “historic contemporary relationship” with that country. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
