The revised and corrected draft list will be published on February 2 It will also be posted on the website of the district administration MYSORE: The voters’ list pertaining to Mysore district published recently has thrown up lot of discrepancies. There is an excess of 2.016 lakh names that have to be deleted in a renewed exercise. Hence the revision of the list in the district, that concluded recently, has been extended to January 21. The revised and corrected draft list will be published on February 2. This follows an observation by the Election Commission of India regarding anomalies in the list in the State and a directive that the list be revised. Deputy Commissioner N.S. Channappa Gowda said that there were no problems in certain constituencies such as Hunsur, Periyapatana, H.D. Kote and Nanjangud where the number of voters was around 65 per cent of the local population. But the population was significantly higher in K.R. Nagar (71 per cent), T. Narsipur (71 per cent ), Bannur (78 per cent), Chamundeshwari (78 per cent), Narasimharaja (72 per cent), Chamaraja (72 per cent) and Krishnaraja (81 per cent) While 37,401 names have to be deleted from the list in Chamaraja constituency, nearly 32,000 names will be deleted from Chamundeshwari constituency, while 42,974 names will be removed from the Narasimharaja constituency and around 15,000 will be deleted in the Krishnaraja constituency. There are 21,50,950 voters in the district according to the revised list, of which 2,01,600 names will have to be deleted in the revised list. AppointedThe authorities have appointed booth level officers who will collate and cross-check the list of all the 1,914 polling booths in the district and they in turn will coordinate with nodal officers above whom will be supervisors overseeing the revision process. “We have incorporated a vigorous cross-checking mechanism to eliminate anomalies and the possibility of politically inclined officials to add or delete names to favour a particular party. Officials of one district will be sent on deputation to cross-check and verify the list in other districts,” said Mr. Channappagowda. OpportunityThe exercise to revise the voters’ list has provided an opportunity for those whose names were missing during the last elections, to enrol and get themselves registered by submitting Form 6 which will be accepted by the authorities till the conclusion of the exercise. Likewise, names that need to be deleted from the list and arising out of various situations like migration, transfer or death may also be brought to the notice of the authorities who will take steps to strike off such names from the list during the streamlining operation. The public may submit Form 7 for deletion of names, Form 8 for carrying out corrections in the name, Form 8 A for effecting transfer of names from one booth to another. Citizens who have attained 18 years of age as on January 1, 2008 may also get themselves registered as voters. CautionedPeople have been cautioned against providing false data or failing to delete the names of the deceased or those who no longer live in the area as it amounts to crime and could result in prosecution. The revised draft list to be published on will also be posted on the website of the district administration. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
