Badrinath, Kudua on song

CHENNAI: S. Badrinath and Ajay N. Kudua notched up centuries for Jolly Rovers against Aruna on the second day of the seventh round of the TNCA first division league here on Friday.

Badrinath (110, 124b, 13x4) and Kudua (109, 145b, 15x4) added 122 for the third wicket in 21.3 overs as Rovers, dismissed for 335, took an 89-run lead over Aruna at the IIT-Chemplast ground. M. Vijay contributed 55.

Parry’s off-spinner N. Raghavendran claimed five for 67 as Eagles slumped to 115 for eight at the Murugappa-TI Cycles ground. Earlier, Parry’s made 277 with S. Murali scoring 73 and A.K. Suresh 50. Left-arm spinner R. Raghuram prised out four batsmen.

At the ICL-Guru Nanak ground, Globe Trotters grabbed a 130-run lead over Grand Slam. Praveen Srivatsan (97, 224b, 10x4) and Y. Venugopala Rao (71, 104b, 9x4) put on 130 for the third wicket in 37.4 overs. Gowjith Subash chipped in with 48. Grand Slam was 62 for one in its second innings.

Vijay declared its first innings at 472 for six against India Pistons at the CPT-IP ground. K. Shree Vasudeva Das made 80 (135b, 8x4) and there were handy contributions from M.K. Sivakumar (49), R. Naresh (45) and Sreekumar Nair (51 not out). Vikram Mani was unbeaten on 83 (158b, 14x4) as Pistons progressed to 125 for one at close.

Young Stars, trailing in the first innings by 105 runs, was 52 for one against Alwarpet. Earlier, off-spinner K. Srinivasan and left-arm spinner L. Ganesh claimed four wickets each as Alwarpet was bowled out for 274 at MAC.

For Alwarpet, S. Vidyut made 72 (150b, 6x4, 1x6) and V. Subramania Siva 54 (102b, 8x4). D. Vasu (45 not out) rallied with the tail.

Indian Bank, with K.H. Gopinath top-scoring with 78 (185b, 6x4), declared at 317 for eight after taking a 204-run lead over IOB at the MRF-Pachaiyappa’s ground. E. Suresh contributed 52. For IOB, off-spinner Rajesh Kannan picked up four wickets.

The Sri Sivasubramaniya Nadar College of Engineering will conduct the sixth National-level inter-college basketball, badminton, tennis, cricket and table tennis tournaments at its premises at Kalavakkam (Old Mahabalipuram Road) from January 22 to 25.

The all-India public sector carrom tournament will be held at the J.J. Basketball Indoor Stadium from January 21. The four-day tournament will feature 11 men’s teams and 6 women’s teams from 11 PSUs.

BSNL is hosting the event organised annually by the All India Public Sector Sports Promotion Board.

Trophies and prizes will be given to the best men and women teams, individual players and winners of slam events, A.S. Egaya, chief general manager, BSNL Tamil Nadu Telecom Circle told presspersons on Friday.
