BCs urged to prepare for united struggle

VIZIANAGARAM: As a measure to create awareness among backward classes and record their grievances for submission to TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu at the scheduled ‘BC Garjana’ at Hanamkonda (Warangal) on January 23, the district BC Cell organised a meeting here on Saturday.

The party polit bureau member P. Ashok Gajapathi Raju said the promises the Congress made prior to the elections were ignored and they remained mere slogans. He said suicides had increased and artisans were unable to prosecute their vocation with respect.

Prior to the Lok Sabha elections the Centre had proposed a survey of BCs with base 1931 but it was ignored. Stating that the BCs had gained economic status, the State Government too issued GO 23 withdrawing Gowdas, Padmasali, Munnurukapu and Mudiraj communities from the BCs list.

Following an uproar from the communities as well as from political parties the government kept the order in abeyance, he said.

Criticising the Government for ignoring welfare schemes launched by the TDP Government, Mr. Ashok said 7,000 primary schools were closed and some PHCs became defunct.

The allocation in Budget for SC, ST and BC welfare was steeply cut. On political front, the Congress party even failed to appoint BCs in nominated posts such chairmen of District Cooperative Marketing Societies, Agriculture Market Committees etc.

He called upon BCs to participate in large numbers in “BC Garjana” and prepare for a united struggle against the government.

He felt that the ‘garjana’ would force the Centre to consider for a survey of BCs in the near future.

Party district president Y. Ramana Murty asked party cadres to submit representations in the Collectorate if they found anomalies in the recently released voters list. He also demanded that the government include Sista Karanams, Koorakulu and other communities in the BCs list.

State BC Cell secretary M. Krishna Rao, who participated as an observer, asked mandal BC Cell committees to mobilise at least five persons from each village for the ‘garjana’.

District BC Cell president Dwarapureddy Jagadish presided.
