HYDERABAD: Water from the Telugu Ganga canal will be released to Chennai once again in the month of April. This will be in addition to the release in January in deference to a request by the Tamil Nadu government, Rajiv Ranjan Mishra, secretary, Irrigation, told The Hindu after meeting Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy here on Monday. The timing for the second release has been fixed for April as the present storage in Poondi reservoir near Chennai will be sufficient till then. Andhra Pradesh is in a better position this year to meet its commitment to Chennai as there is sufficient storage of water in both the Somasila and Kandaleru projects.
