For weavers: Visitors taking a look at the display of handloom products exhibited at Tirupur Kumaran College for Women in Tirupur on Tuesday. TIRUPUR: The handloom exhibition-cum-sale organised by Tirupur Kumaran College for Women here has evoked good response. The first day, Tuesday, witnessed sale of handloom products worth Rs.1.2 lakh. The week-long exhibition has been organised as part of the special programme to lend a helping hand to weavers by the National Service Scheme of Bharathiar University, Coimbatore. K. Raju, NSS coordinator of the university, inaugurated the sale in the presence of Tirupur legislator C. Govindasamy. B. Rajalakshmi, managing director of Balu Spinning Mills, received the first sale.Principal Rachel Nanci Philip said that the exhibition had a range of collections from bed sheets, pillow covers to saris and churidhars. Seven other colleges here, affiliated to BU, have launched the sale. Products of various weavers’ cooperative societies from Erode, Tiruchengode, Nagercoil, Virudhunagar and Coimbatore have been on display.
