HYDERABAD: Senior BJP leader Ch.Vidyasagar Rao has asked Congress president Sonia Gandhi to contest to the Lok Sabha from Medak to experience the ‘sentiment’ in favour of Telangana State. At a ‘maha dharna’ organised by the party here on Wednesday, he urged the activists to expose the ‘deception’ of the Congress and Telangana Rashtra Samiti on bifurcation of the State. He wanted them to take the message to the people that a separate State could be achieved only through a national party. Party president Bandaru Dattatreya charged Ms. Gandhi with making Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ‘enact a drama’ on Telangana. Demanding the Congress to introduce a Bill on Telangana, he demanded Congress leaders hailing from the region to quit the party. He demanded Dr. Reddy’s apology for reportedly saying that Telangana could be considered only if the Congress secured a majority in Parliament. He also hit out at the Telugu Desam and demanded it to spell out the party’s stand on bifurcating the State. Referring to the ‘BC garjana’ organised by TDP at Warangal, he said people of the region wanted ‘Telangana garjana’. He said the BJP would organise another ‘maha dharna’ at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi next month. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
