Kerala must obey SC order on Periyar dam, says CPI

Only then should TN talk to that State: Pandian

THENI: Kerala government must obey the Supreme Court order on Periyar Dam issue before taking part in talks with the Tamil Nadu, said D. Pandian, State Secretary, Communist Party of India (CPI).

Talking to reporters at Cumbum on Tuesday, he said Tamil Nadu government too should hold talks only when the Kerala government obeys the order. This is applicable to Karnataka also.

Discussing about national politics, he stated that Congress was defeated in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh owing to lack of Left support. “Congress cannot win the Parliament election without the support of Left parties.”

Without unanimous consent or understanding among coalition parties, the government led by such parties could not do any good things to people. However, the Central Government led by the Congress had introduced several welfare schemes within the framework of the common minimum programme.

Commenting on the State Government’s performance, the secretary charged that the cooperation of government officials in implementation of welfare schemes was very poor even as the government formulated excellent schemes. Officials did not perform up to the mark, he deplored.

Several poor people residing in the district for over 20 years have not got house pattas till date, he added.
