Tuticorin: The Thermal Nagar police have registered cases againts five fishermen from Kanyakumari district and Kerala on the charge of attacking five of their counterparts here, in mid sea on Tuesday evening. According to the police, S. Andrew (25), L. Jenison (25), F. George (35), A. Shaji (25), all from Colachel in Kanyakumari district and V. Suresh (35) from Sakthikulangara in Kerala, who came in a fishing boat registered in Kerala, attacked the fishermen from here with stones and wooden panels ensuing a heated argument about 38 nautical miles off Tuticorin coast. The dispute erupted between the two factions after fishermen belonging to Tuticorin questioned the rights of boats from Kerala fishing near Tuticorin coast. The five accused along with their boats were then brought to the shore by a group of fishermen here, who rushed to the ‘rescue’ of their fellowmen.
