‘TDP betrayed weaker sections’

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: Three Ministers have described the BC Garjana meeting of the Telugu Desam as a `desperate attempt’ to regain the confidence of the BCs and other weaker sections which it had lost.

In a strident criticism of Telugu Desam Party President N. Chandrababu Naidu, the Ministers said Mr. Naidu who had “betrayed” the BC communities during his nine-year-tenure was now trying to act as their benefactor. “We have no objection to the TDP organising the meeting, but Mr. Naidu should first admit that his party has lost the confidence of the weaker sections,” Agriculture Minister N. Raghuveera Reddy said.

Addressing a press conference along with Ministers Ponnala Lakshmaiah and M. Mukesh Goud here on Thursday, he criticised senior TDP leaders including T. Devender Goud and Y. Ramakrishnudu for not taking the plight of the BCs to the notice of Mr. Naidu when he was the Chief Minister. “Mr. Naidu has rightly admitted that TDP founder N.T. Rama Rao accorded top priority to weaker sections because their welfare was set aside after the “fake TDP” headed by him took over the reins,” he said.

Clarification sought

The Minister was critical of Mr. Naidu for charging Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy with “amassing wealth” claiming not a single allegation was proved despite ordering judicial and other probes
