SANGAREDDY: The Medak district bandh called by the Congress to protest against the attack on Minister for Cooperation Mohd. Fareeduddin was marred by clashes between activists of the ruling party and the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) in different places on Thursday. Three Congress supporters, including two Municipal Councillors, and a TRS follower, were injured when the police resorted to lathicharge here. The incident was a fallout of the protest staged by Congress workers near the residence of TRS MLC R. Satyanarayana. Led by party Councillors Shaik Saber and Sami, besides B. Ravi, husband of municipal chairperson B. Vijayalaxmi, Congress workers went to the MLC’s residence and shouted slogans. This sparked off a fight between supporters of the two parties in which Babar, a TRS activist, was hurt. The police swung into action and resorted to lathicharge. Speaking to reporters later, Mr. Satyanarayana alleged that local TRS rebel MLA T. Jayaprakash Reddy was behind the attack. He submitted memorandums to the District Collector and the Superintendent of Police alleging a plot to eliminate him. The bandh was almost total in the entire district with Congress partymen staging protests and rasta rokos at Medak, Narsapur, Kohir Toopran and other places. Bus services, barring long distance services, were paralysed. In Sangareddy, a huge rally was addressed by Ministers Mohd. Fareeduddin, J. Geetha Reddy, M. Mukesh and C. D. Rajanarasimha who roundly condemned what they called a ‘pre-planned attack’ by the TRS against the Minister on Wednesday. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
