HYDERABAD: Justice N. V. Ramana of the High Court on Friday directed the authorities to stop all further proceedings in the elections to handloom weavers’ cooperative societies in the State. With this direction, a question mark hangs over the election process for handloom weavers’ cooperatives scheduled to begin in the State shortly. The judge was dealing with a writ petition filed by Damarla Seetharamiah questioning the proceedings issued by Director of Handloom and Textiles on December 31. The director indicated the schedule of dates for the publication of voters list etc. After issuance of these proceedings the orders reducing/increasing the share capital to Rs. 50 and permitting the members to vote even if there are dues to the society were released in January. The petitioners objected to this. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
