Distribution of ration cards not closed

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: Distribution of ration-cards will be continued as a regular exercise to cover eligible families as well as those who were left out.

Announcing this at a press conference here on Friday, Civil Supplies Minister Kasu Venkatakrishna Reddy said a total of 100 permanent Designated Photography Locations (DPL) had been opened in the State to issue ration-cards to the families left out.

The Government, therefore, had issued 1.59 lakh fresh cards. Those still left out could apply for the cards after attesting their applications attested by the tahsildar/assistant supply officer.

Mr. Reddy said the Government was going ahead with implementation of the subsidised rice scheme from April at an additional cost of Rs. 1,019 crore to provide rice at Rs. 2-a-kilo to the white cardholders.

Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy would address district Collectors and joint Collectors shortly to brief them on the dos and don’ts of the scheme.
