TDP to raise BCs issue in Assembly

Correspondent

VIZIANAGARAM: TDP deputy leader in the Assembly Kala Venkata Rao has said that his party will seek a reply on the floor of the ensuing Budget session that begins on February 11 on the allocations made for BCs welfare during the last four years.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, Mr. Venkata Rao said that Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy and his Cabinet colleagues had no right to talk about BCs welfare as allocations made in Budget were diverted to other activities. With the success of ‘BC Garjana’ of the party, the YSR Government with an eye on elections to Assembly next year began trying to woo BCs who constitute 54 per cent of the population with false promises.

Demanding representation to BCs on the basis of population in governance, Mr. Venkata Rao claimed that the TDP provided 20 per cent representation for BCs and 9 per cent for women during its regime besides 33 per cent quota in jobs for women. Saying that they received a raw deal, he said that even mess charges and scholarships to students were not released without struggle.

Inadequate allocations

Taking a dig at Finance Minister K. Rosaiah for his ability to impose cuts in allocations for weaker sections, Mr. Venkata Rao said that he (Mr. Rosaiah), at the same time, with his oratory skills could silence his critics in and outside the Assembly. He said that there was a steep increase in Budget proposals from Rs. 25,000 crores during TDP rule to Rs. 87,000 crores during the last years and it were expected to touch Rs. 1 lakh crores this year.
