NCA coaching course for women cricketers

Bangalore: The National Cricket Academy is conducting a Level ‘A’ coaching course for women cricketers for the first time here at the academy premises. The course that commenced on Monday, features 31 women cricketers and will conclude on February 1.

Dr. K. Suratwala is in charge of the course while Dinesh Nanavaty, Atul Gaikwad and R. Sridhar are also part of the resource panel. NCA’s director of operations Dav Whatmore also participated in the discussions.

Dr. Suratwala explained the rationale behind the course. “It is a first for the NCA to have a course for women cricketers. We have 31 cricketers/coaches who have come in from all parts of the Country and this course called the Level A course, was originally known as the Level I course but the ICC in a meeting at Dubai has renamed these levels and we have also taken note of the change. This course covers basic skills of cricket, safety in sport and also the conduct of net sessions. The response has been good and the sessions have been interactive and Dav Whatmore also has contributed,” Dr. Suratwala said.

Meanwhile the NCA is upgrading its infrastructure. The gym will soon be equipped with the latest state-of-the-art equipment. .
