HYDERABAD: Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Additional DIG Syed Sirajuddin Khan was shot dead allegedly by a constable T. Hanumantha Rao at his office at Chandrayanagutta on Thursday evening.

Mr. Khan was working as staff officer to CRPF Inspector General (southern sector) P. Mallanna Goud.

He was at his office at the CRPG Group Centre campus at Chandrayanagutta when the constable walked up to him and fired one round with his INSAS rifle at him around 6.15 p.m. The critically injured officer was rushed to the Osmania General Hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.

Taken into custody

Rao was taken into custody and is being questioned. The 30-year-old constable hailing from Kurnool lives with his family at the local CRPF quarter. Khan is from Hyderabad. Sources say the constable was angered over not being sanctioned leave to visit his home village.

The Chandrayanagutta police have registered a murder case.
