VIJAYAWADA: Bharatiya Janata Party State president Bandaru Dattatreya on Saturday described the outbursts of senior Congress leaders over Telangana issue as just “a game of gimmicks that the ruling Congress is known for playing in its continued bid to put the separate State issue on the backburner.” Addressing a press conference here, Mr. Dattatreya said what the senior Congress leaders from Telanagana were enacting in the last couple of months was “a street play” aimed at creating confusion among the people of the region. But their statements had brought one thing clearly to the fore, which was that Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy would not allow Telangana State to take birth as long as he was in command of the party in the State, he added. The BJP leader said it had been amply proved that the Chief Minister was an impediment to the process of creating a separate Telangana now, and there seemed to be no two opinions on this. “BJP cadres will go to Delhi by a special train in the last week of February. This will happen after a signature campaign in the villages of Telangana. Their feelings will be represented to President Pratibha Patil,” Mr. Dattatreya said. The train would be named Telangana Express, he added. Mr. Dattatreya demanded the immediate arrest of the accused in the murder and rape of Ayesha Meera at a girls’ hostel in Ibrahimpatnam. He urged the police to nab the accused as early as possible without giving scope for allegations about political pressure on investigation into the sensational case. Mr. Dattatreya asked the Government to come out with a white paper on the progress made and funds spent on the irrigation projects in the State in the last three and half years, so that the truth about the allegations of corruption would be known to the people. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
