BERHAMPUR: A wild langoor has created panic at K.N. Pur village under Purushottampur block in Ganjam district. According to forest ranger, S. Biswal, the languor injured more than 50 persons, including children, during last few months. The villagers have been demanding immediate capture or killing of it. On Saturday, they blocked the road to the village for over five hours. Mr. Biswal also had to face the wrath of the villagers who gheraoed him. The Purushottampur tehsildar had to rush to the spot on Saturday evening to hold discussions with villagers. A similar langoor last year injured some 40 persons of Narendrapur village on the outskirts. Forest officials had failed to capture it. They had declared it ‘rogue’ and had asked for permission from the administration to kill it. But a veterinary team from Nandankanan zoological park had at last a veterinary experts’ team from Nandankanan and caught the langoor and released it jungle. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
