Going hi-tech to reduce corruption

BERHAMPUR: Ganjam district administration envisions introducing mobile banking and bio-matrix ATM to reduce corruption during payment of labourers employed through National Rural Employment Guarantee Program (NREGP).

Speaking to newsmen at Chatrapur on Saturday the Ganjam district Collector V.K. Pandian said the beneficiaries of NREGP could be saved from corruption and exploitation only through increased reach of banking system to remote rural areas. On this day two years back projects under NREGP had been started in the district.

Till now around Rs. 45 crore has been sanctioned for NREGP in the district. Out of it around Rs. 30 crore has been spent. Around 79,000 families have been provided work through NREGP in the district. To monitor the implementation of this project 450 Gram Rozgar Sevaks have been appointed who are undergoing training at camp at Tampara.
