DAVANGERE: The statue of late J.H. Patel, the former Chief Minister of Karnataka and veteran socialist leader, will be unveiled here on Wednesday by Union Minister M.V. Rajashekaran. The former Defence Minister George Fernandes is expected to participate in the function to be held in front of the zilla panchayat here. The Davangere Zilla Panchayat has had the statue manufactured in Mysore, which will be placed in front of the office, president of the zilla panchayat Y. Ramappa said here on Tuesday. He said the statue was being placed in front of the zilla panchayat office to express gratitude to the late leader for forming the district along with six other districts in the State. Davangere MP G.M. Siddeshwar, the former MLA Shyamanur Shivashankarappa and MLC H.S. Shivashankar will participate. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
