Bishop attacked

TIRUNELVELI: CSI Bishop in Tirunelveli S. Jayapaul David was attacked by a group on Tuesday while on his way to attend a meeting of priests at the Cathedral Church in Palayamkottai.

The police picked up Selvaraj (47) of Mela Seval, Gunapaul Jayasingh (59) of Yemankulam, Kingsley (31) of Pattamadai, and Paul Balasingam (65) of Mukkoodal for interrogation.

When the Bishop reached the venue around 10.30 a.m., the group surrounded him and raised slogans. A police team chased away the miscreants.

After the recent elections to various positions in the Tirunelveli CSI diocese, rivalry between the two factions had worsened.

The police suspected the clash was a result of the enmity. — Staff Reporter
