VIZIANAGARAM: Villagers, led by CPI (ML), staged a dharna at the Collectorate on Wednesday demanding action against a realtor. According to a release issued by CPI (ML) district secretary D. Verma and town secretary Behera Sankara Rao, realtor Gundu Janardhana Rao had encroached the government poramboke and irrigation channel at Dharmpuri village on the outskirts of the town and developed it into house sites. As a result, sowing in 80 acres of land under Jaggaraju tank could not be done this year and also the villagers were deprived of drinking water. Mr. Verma said that officials concerned were not taking action against the realtor in spite of protests and representations submitted to them in May last. He said that they would continue the dharna till the encroachments were cleared. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
