‘Sania’s decision cause for concern’

BANGALORE: The captain of the Indian Fed Cup team, Enrico Piperno, has said that he is not in agreement with Sania Mirza’s decision to not play in the country for a while.

Piperno, who is on a coaching assignment with the Jain Academy of Sporting Excellence, in a chat with The Hindu here said: “It is one thing if she says that she is not going to play in the Bangalore Open. It is her personal decision, one has to respect it. But if she says, she is not going play in the country for some time, it is a cause for concern.”

He, however, hoped that Sania will put aside all the controversies that have been dogging her and continue to play as a true professional. “As the highest ranked player in Asia she has lot to look forward and I hope she stays focussed and has a great 2008,” said Piperno. — Special Correspondent
