Mahesh Bagheeratha of Kannada Prabha, Mysore; K.V. Srinivasan Award to H.S. Sachith of Prajavani, Hunsur; and J.P. Memorial Award to Laiqh A. Khan of The Hindu, Mysore. The awards were presented in recognition of their distinguished contribution to the field of journalism. Social activist Putteeramma of Mysore was felicitated on the occasion for her relentless campaign for the welfare of society. Mr. Srinivasan announced another award instituted in the name of former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam for best reporting on Indian culture, art and science. Mr. Siddaramaiah called upon the media to scrutinise politicians and expose their dishonesty and misdeeds. He observed that even the most corrupt politicians masqueraded as honest persons. It was the duty of the Fourth Estate to expose them through proper investigation, he said. “Journalism is a highly responsible profession. It is not folklore which is passed on from one person to another. It requires collection of factual information, investigation and detailed study,” he said. The association president Amshi Prasanna Kumar presided over the function. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
