Union Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss’s appeal to film stars Amitabh Bachchan and Shahrukh Khan to stop acting in smoking scenes in films is highly commendable. Films are the fastest means to influence the brains of the youth to a large extent. Whatever the hero does, the youth usually imitate it. M. Blessing Moses Polavaram, West Godavari district Campus interviewsThe idea of conducting campus interviews is appreciable, as it encourages many students from poor and middleclass backgrounds to take to studies. The idea of job guarantee even before the completion of one’s academics will really boost the morale of students. In the near future, it will be inevitable for government departments to emulate private companies with regard to appointment of qualitative staff by conducting campus interviews. B.V. Subrahmanya Sastry Bapatla, Guntur district Revision of pension soughtIt is time the Government revised the pension of its retired employees. For the last decade, there has been no revision of pension and it is becoming difficult for pensioners to reduce their expenses every month as the prices of commodities are skyrocketing. Though the government has revised the D.A. of pensioners on a par with that of Central pensioners, the relief is meagre and marginal.
I request the government to make necessary arrangements to revise the pensions and make it mandatory that the revision should be done once in five years. Banda Nageswara Rao Chirala, Prakasam district Revive glory of UdayagiriThe historic Udayagiri area in Nellore district is being subjected to sheer negligence of the government. The place has a glorious past, as it is originated from the Vijayanagara empire. It has a vast hilly area, rich herbal forests and architectural marvels of ancient temples. Neither the tourism department, nor the department of industries focused on its development. Though river Penna flows adjacent to this place, Udayagiri is known as a dry zone, as there is no initiative to divert the water. Crops here are monsoon-based. I request the government to take necessary steps to preserve the glory of Udayagiri by developing basic infrastructure here. K.
