Steps to streamline tourist reception in Alappuzha

Staff Reporter

ALAPPUZHA: The district police have initiated steps to streamline the tourist reception system in the district by attempting to bring orderliness at railway stations, bus stands and at the Alappuzha Boat Jetty.

According to Superintendent of Police Nagaraju, the first step towards organising the system was to assemble all the tourist guides. Apart from collecting names, photographs, and addresses of all guides, the police have also decided to set up a register to clock the arrival and departure times of houseboats at the Alappuzha Boat Jetty.

The police have also issued directions to autorickshaws, taxis and other vehicles arriving at the railway station, bus stand and boat jetty to maintain queues and not to harass the tourists. A system to bring uniformity in rates being charged by these is also being formulated, Mr. Nagaraju told The Hindu.

With an outpost to supervise the proposed prepaid autorickshaw stand being constructed at the Alappuzha Railway Station, autorickshaws and taxis have already been asked to wait in queues and for passengers to approach them rather than them running after the passengers.

The police are also planning to increase the number of tourism police personnel and the number of constables deployed at these spots, the SP added.
